Hello-  Brooke here from The Lodge at Raven Creek.  I’m sure you’re all wondering where Raven Creek is, so let me tell you.  It’s just outside of Benton, near Ricketts Glen State Park.  Now that you know where we are, let me tell you a little bit about our journey.

The Lodge was formerly a fly fishing store and a bed & breakfast.  Last May, almost exactly a year ago, my husband Corey and I received a phone call from the owner asking if we were interested in purchasing the property (my parents live across the street so he thought we might be).  We had never stayed at a B&B nor were we interested in running one, however we decided to take a look.  Our first walk through was overwhelming and exciting.  I was intrigued by the B&B idea and thought maybe it would be fun.  However as I made my way across the wrap-around porch and saw the backyard, I had a gut feeling that the property would be perfect for outdoor weddings.  At this point, the landscaping was rough and the yard was mostly an overgrown field but the potential was there.  I talked with Corey about possibilities and we started praying for clarity.  We put our small farm up for sale by owner and when we had a buyer in 2 weeks we knew the answer.  We decided to take the leap and purchase the property.  That was only the beginning …

We spent the year since updating the B&B rooms, turning the fly fishing store into a banquet hall that can seat about 70 people, adding a small pond to the property and doing countless hours of landscaping and planning.  We opened our B&B doors in August and have had lots of wonderful guests come to visit.  They come to hike Ricketts Glen to see the beautiful water falls, they come to the area to visit family, or they come from the cities to enjoy the peaceful countryside that we all take for granted.

In September of last year we also booked our first wedding and the couples haven’t stopped coming since. It amazes me that these couples are willing to take a chance on a new venue hosting their most special day.  However each of them trusts that we are committed to making their day all they dream it will be.  And they can’t deny the beauty and peacefulness of The Lodge.  We are different from most venues in that when a couple chooses to host their wedding at The Lodge, they get the property for the entire weekend.  Our entire B&B is included in all our wedding packages for Friday through Sunday.  This makes for a more relaxed, stress-free weekend for the couple and their wedding party.  It also allows us to give the couple the attention they deserve because our weekend is dedicated solely to their event.

We have several 2016 weddings coming up and are beyond excited to see each one come together.  We are also currently booking 2017 weddings so if you know someone who has dreamed of an outdoor wedding, we would love to meet them and give them a tour.

This ride has only begun for our family and we are loving every minute of it.  I have met so many great people- beautiful brides, amazingly creative wedding vendors, small business entrepreneurs, and the list goes on and on.  I am so glad that we took this crazy leap of faith and I can’t wait to see where it takes us.  Thanks for reading and we hope you’ll follow us on this journey by watching our Facebook page or visiting us at The Lodge.
